I have often been told the only stupid question is the one NOT ASKED.

I out mine out at 6 weeks and they put themselves away the first night. I never had to contain them for a long period of time. I think they are all different but the bottom line is they will put themselves to bed sooner or later. they know they are vulnerable

I usually put them to bed, i.e. close the door well after they go in and settle down. Tonight I caught the last one going in so almost shut the door on her tail. The puzzled looks I could see through the vent window were possitively comical.

Chickens tend to know when and where they should sleep. Ours have a set bedtime and roosts. They catch on pretty quick.
