that's the problem... i've been nothing but nice to her and she always has snide comments about me, my house and anything/everything else. She's lied to me, tried to 'steal' my mom to become best friends with her (seriously... long story but i'm not exaggerating). I'm over it. Plus, no one here knows her... it would be different if i had posted this on facebook.

it's ok, you are in the right place for chicken-related empathy.

PS: don't feed the trolls

I didn't realize being crazy over beautiful birds that are a total enjoyment to watch and they pay their own way was nuts. Oh well I guess I am part of the crazy group.

Thanks guys! I needed the encouragement. I always do take the high road... and as a result I HAVE to vent to someone.. so that would be all of you.

I think she put the 'love ya sister' on the end just so she didn't sound like a b*#$%. I really can't stand her.

Maybe it's a southern thing.

A friend of mine moved down to Hotlanta, and came to the conclusion that you could say dang near anything about anyone, as long as you followed it up with "bless her heart."

As in "Have you seen the size o' dem shanks on Mandy? It's been a year since she had the baby, an she ain't dropped the weight. She looks just like a hog, bless her little heart!"

So, enjoy your chickens, and put up with your sister in law, bless her little heart!

LOL! SOOO true... except she's from MN so maybe that's the northern equivalent of 'bless her heart'?

There is 'good' crazy, and 'bad' crazy. My neighbors call me 'the chicken lady'. Crazy does have a negative connotation though, so I would probably not label myself with that.... Coming from a family full of people I can comfortably call eccentric (good crazy) or a bit different than the average joe/jane, I don't mind when people ask- so HOW many chickens do you have now? Why do you have that turkey? What good are those guineas? I have met so many interesting people via this hobby! I know so many of my neighbors now, that I would never have met otherwise. As long as the neighbors don't actively dislike chickens (or their noise ect), you will likely find that you meet neat people & neighbors because of your hobby- and that is a good thing.

Some of my family and the people I work with really think I an crazy because I love this aspect of living so much. It's hard to find kindred spirits who understand the land and our critters like we do . . .I have a long way to go, but what a ride!!!!!!!
