Stupid Snake!!!!! now with Pics.

It's odd that I came across this thread for the first time just now.

Odd, because I just found a rat snake in my sun room this morning. The "sun room" was previously a deck, which has been enclosed well enough that I keep my tropical plants out there in the winter, and it also houses my cage birds and one cage of bantam cochins -- but when the weather is warm, the windows are all open with welded wire over them to keep the dogs out. So, in warm weather, it's really only semi-enclosed.

Anyway -- I found the rat snake out there this morning. I bid him good luck in his mouse hunting chores, and I let him go about his slithery way. My cochins are too big for him, my small chicks are in enclosed brooders in the house, my cage birds are in snake-proof cages, and if he eats an egg or two it's worth the price.

I was very happy to see him. I've got lots of animals so I'm not going to be using poison, and I need all the help I can get with rodent control!

Sorry for your loss. I'll amend any advice that I give out. I told someone on this forum that I thought baby chicks might be eaten by snakes but obviously babies thru month olds are in danger. Glad you found where entry was made and trust that those repairs will keep everyone safe in the future.

And this is exactly why I am a huge fan of not keeping these large snakes.
At the size of this snake in the news report whether domestic(captive bred) or in the wild they have the potential of killing, or severely injuring someone. as this person found out.
Some people get lucky , some people havent been so lucky.

I am not saying they should be banned so do not jump on the post, all I am saying is people should be more cautious of larger constrictors.
I am truely sorry anyone or any critter is taken by a large snake, I am a snake person and take in many snakes people cant handle or get bored with , the 2 on my list I will NOT take are Reticulated and Burmese. they are way to dangerous.

I'm sorry for the loss of your babies. My DH and I will be putting together a coop for my babies this next weekend and this post has taught me to leave no hole unsealed. I don't want to kill a snake, it would flip me out to get close enough to one to even kill it, but if I find one near my chickens, it will die.
