So, there I was on Monday morning, vacuuming to my little heart's content. I was cautious to avoid sucking any Legos into oblivion and the kids were running circles around me screaming their Comanche war cries...it was a normal vacuuming session at our house. Suddenly I hear a funny noise from my vacuum, and at the same moment that my braind registers an "Oh no!" it hit me....THE SMELL! I hate it when I burn up a vacuum belt! And I only had 3 ft of my FOREST GREEN carpet left (which really stood out against the clean stuff)! So off to WalMart I go, hey I needed more bags for the beast anyway. As I scanned the vacuum aisle at WalMart (everything in there looks the same dangit!) I finally found the bags for my Kenmore vacuum. I figured that if they carry BAGS for a Kenmore they MUST have belts for them, since they had belts for Bissel, Dirt Devil, some asian name i never heard before, Hoover, Stanely, and several other brands... NO THEY DONT. So, in our LIMITED, PODUNK town I am kind of without many options, theres a hardeware store to check out and if they dont have it there I'm screwed - it aint worth it to me to drive 65 miles to get a belt for the sucker... ARGH well that just ruined my morning, no stinking belts...who do they think they are!?

Ah, I feel your pain!! The same thing happened to me a few months back.
I did eventually find them, and at Walmart but only AFTER buying a new vacumn!
So, now I buy extra of everything, bags and belts. Keep them in a Ziplock freezer bag in the closet so they stay good. And then look for another replacement after I use one up.
Hope you get that carpet done!

If the belt didn't break, you might try flipping it inside out and slapping it back on there.. The burnt side that's normally on the pulleys would then be on the outside, with the fresh side on the pulleys.

Might work until you could track down a new belt.. I've done it before....worked for us.

I just saw that post above mine, but that is true. You can also ask the dept. supervisor if they would start ordering them for you too. It amazes me how some WM's have stuff that others don't have, and someone told me each dept. head orders for their own dept. that explains why local one has such crappy clothes for every age and size except babies.

I found it odd..

The WalMArt here will not special order anything. If it's on their website, you can order it and pick it up at the store. Otherwise, they just say, "Nope. Whatever comes in on the truck is what we we'll have in stock. No special orders."

Try Sears.com. You can order parts online and they are pretty quick at getting them to you.
If it is a Kenmore belt, it might still be proprietary even though you got bags elsewhere.

This is why I am having to shop for a new vac again; after a few years I just can't find the belts anywhere, stores, online...
I've been vacuuming the whole house with the little attachment for over a year because I'm too cheap to replace it yet.
