styrofoam...a treat or not?

I have a bantam Cochin that ate some styrofoam once, and has had crop emptying issues since then.

The hens that sneak into my house are looking for styrofoam bits. Y'know, some of those fall out of boxes when you unpack 'em, and maybe not all get picked up.... My Himalyan loves to bat and chase them. So, under the kitchen table go those visiting hens, looking for the goodies.

I left a styrofoam chest outside; it's one I use to put cold grocery items inside when I am shopping. But I am taking stuff up to my new house a bit at a time and needed the space taken up by that chest. I put it up high...out of chicken reach. But the wind caught the lid.... And now i have a very nibbled lid to my Styrofoam chest

They are lacking something from their diet. My guess is that they need MORE calcium.
