It can get real cold here in Wisconsin and I was wondering if anyone puts a 1 inch thick or so piece of styrofoam under the straw in the bedding area? I would think that would help keep them warm. Any problems with that?

Hello neighbor! I am in Kewaskum where are you?
Your chickens will eat it.

We covered our window with foam , all was good til one pecked at it. It took them one morning to shred it up and spred foam dust all over the coop .

It didn’t hurt ours ....we covered it with hardware cloth , then plexiglass....

Just watch to see if they find it

They don't seem to know it is there. They sit on the straw just like before.
Maybe not yet, but when they do find it(and they will) they will tear it apart and eat it.

With your coop and climate.....
.....you might need to do some research on the 'warmth' vs 'ventilation'.
