subscribing to topics?

How does subscribing to a particular topic work on this forum? I see where to select to subscribe but am lost from there as to how it works.

When you "subscribe" to a topic, whenever anyone adds something to that particular thread, you will receive an email informing you of it.

It's a great way to stay updated on topics you have a particular interest in. Of course, you can always "unsubscribe" too.
