I tried searching but didn't have much luck on this, I'm wondering, assuming that there are no local laws banning it and you have enough square feet coop and run, is it alright to keep geese in a suburban setting? Also, are there any geese that would stand a Mass winter?

I'm wondering mostly if the geese would be happy if they were in an enclosed pen rather than free-ranged, cause I like both goose eggs, the potential for meat on special occasions, and I've heard of their dependability as alarm systems against small predators.

I have a small suburban yard and I have 3 adult ducks that wonder there throughout the day, but they have a pen and hutch for night time. I also have an outdoor brooder closet that is currently housing 2 "teenagers". They get supervised back yard time...mainly to keep the drake from beating them up.

If my little back yard can handle 5 ducks, a pair of geese should be fine. Keep a pen for at night, but let them have some yard time during the day and they will be happy.
