Hi, I’m Lorraine, happy keeper of 6 Welsh Harlequin ducks in urban Denver. This is my first year - started in May with darling ducklings that quickly outgrew their brooder, then outgrew the bathtub, and now live in a predator-proof pen with attached duckhouse (currently a converted old chicken coop we got free on freecycle) in the backyard. Got them to raise eggs and for slug/Japanese beetle control, but have been unexpectedly been taken over by their funny personalities, happy dispositions, and joyful presence. We also have a big veggie garden which they love eating... not down to nubbins, but they do strip what they can reach. We don’t mind, because their joy is infectious. I’m in the process of building them a larger, insulated duck house for the winter. I work at Trader Joe’s and run a vegetable gardening website “vegetable gardening with lorraine”. This forum is such a great resource! Thanks - I’ve learned a lot here.
