Such thing as a demon chick???? Don't know what to do!!

Niacin is good for the nervous system as well as duck leg strength. It mellows people out, brings the sense of humor and laughing, instead of hypervigilance. Back in the thirties, the good old country doctors would tell their patients a joke. If the patient didn't laugh, they prescribed niacin. Niacin deficiency was a big problem back then in the South and led to a lot of nervousness and depression in people. In the South then people ate more corn than wheat, and researchers tracked it to not enough niacin in the diet from wheat - corn doesn't have enough if its the main calorie source.

All chicks have the flight/fight response triggering fear or attacking, and a healthy well-nutriated nervous system wouldn't be so likely to go all hyper.

We have the same issue but our evil one started at a week old. Today one of our chicks was bleeding from almost half its body when I came home from work. Almost everyone else had damage that was not there this morning.

We have separated the offender after previous incidents and she starts back up as soon as she is near another bird..
Protein increase, vitamins, treats, distractions, change lights, temp change, etc. etc

My DH decided we are culling. Over 2/3 of our chicks are bleeding from that one attacking everyone.
There is nothing left for us to try.

I'm not willing to lose 23 chicks to save 1. I couldn't afford to have chickens if I did that.

I hope your situation turns out better

Oh wow. That's terrible! I'm sorry! Hope all the others are ok. What a mess! It sounds like you're doing the only thing there is to do.

Good luck and hugs!

Well my Attila has mellowed out. She did not like to be separated. I got up about 3 to check on them and that determined little thing had somehow managed to get over the divider. The good news was no one had a bloody nose and she was mingling without attacking. She is currently snuggled up sleeping with them. Maybe we'll call her Tilly instead! Thanks for the advice, it worked wonders!
