I have heard of someone else's Dellies that lay a purple egg...I hope to get some chicks for myself soon. The BCM's have been known to have that "chalky" coating to their eggs. I get them periodically. It is hard to tell, but one of the dark eggs in my avatar had that too. I rinsed them, the chalkiness went away. Then it came back. I feel anyone is lucky to have purple egg layers! It makes for a more beautiful egg basket.
If anyone in the US has purple eggs to sell, please consider emailing me. I am blowing out the eggs for my school wide art and craft in March.
I use a 20 cc syringe and large needle to push air thru one hole in the egg. Works great.
This Tuesday is how to sew a button on a shirt, how to make a simple hem, mending stitch, and how to use sewing tape when in a rush. Then they will decorate boxes in various shapes. One for needle and thread, and another smaller for buttons. When they are done they get needle, thread, pin cushion, threader, and buttons for their boxes.
We did the gem stone beading right before Christmas. They learned common minerals and rocks in MI. Was a great opportunity to reteach igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks and minerals.
My craft activities are free, no fees for the crafts and snacks. I have 14, 11-12 yr olds by myself after school on this coming Tuesday. LOL!
Now I need to find dark eggs, blue eggs, green eggs, and every other color I can find, (I have white and brown). I had no idea until now that there were purple eggs! My volunteers could get a purple egg. Bet that would net me a couple of parents to help out.
There will easily be triple the number of students for the egg craft. Cathryn MI
That is just the most cool thing ever! I knew always wanted a Maran but now I am doubly jealous!!! Actually, I just want eggs of any color right now. My production from 6 hens is down to 6 a week.....boo hoo!
I have a RIR that when she lays her eggs sometimes they come out with purple spots. If you wash it off they turn brown until it dries again and then they go back to being purple spots. My Welsummer just started laying again and her first two eggs were the same way.
Yep, most, if not all, of my Wheaten Marans lay "purple" eggs and one of my Black Coppers lay it too. It doesn't happen every egg, but about half the time. I'm breeding for the trait though by using my Araucanas to make Olive Eggers with them and keeping the single combed flukes. My Araucanas lay eggs with the bloom over them EVERY time, and single combed flukes from Olive Egger matings often lay a dark brown egg.
