Sudden "bantam" from LF lines?

let's see a pic... I have a couple theories... I have somethng similar I believe to be a cross on a Bantam barnevelder.. Lets see a photo... What are your plans with this freak of nature/or crossbred.

Geez.. skipped right over it. (DUH?)

No chance of crossbreeding. This flock has been in a single pen for months. One roo, three hens, no mixing, double doors between them and the next pen. zero chance of a mix.

I can even bet which hen he came from by looking... He is pure CBM. Posted a pic in an earlier post. Wade Gene/Ron Presley pen, for sure.

ya... I am an idiot... I skipped over it... It was so small I didn't see it... ha ha... I sent you a pm.

I had a BLRW roo that did the same thing. He stayed as small as a 8 week old chick for a year. His coloring was off, and he was very very slow to feather. It took me a year for him to grow saddle feathers and me to be able to tell he was a boy.

I sold him off for eating. But it was a very strange incident.

I did have a whole pen full of young barred rocks that I hatched from standard barred rocks and looked like a medium between LF and Bantams, I raised them the same as I always do all my birds, but with these, the roosters were mature and trying to breed at 5 months old and they never when throught the akward looking stage like most roos do right before they mature. Most all the other roos I have ever raised take around 7 months before they are filled out and matured and breeding and they always go through that akward stage. Didnt you say your boy is breeding early too Patty ? I sold all those that I had before they got much older though so I dont know how if they would have ever gotten any bigger.

If you think he is going to stay small, by all means get yourself some bantam marans and go from there! At least you will find out if the offsprings stay bantams or throw backs of LF size or a bit of both. You might want to put a disclaimer on the hatching eggs that the roo's parents were LF and he was the only one that was bantam size probably due to genetics.

I'm not sure, he just said they had be shrunk down form LF.

He bred them down over time..
They where his LF Mohawk line of R.I. Red..
