My barred rock hen started keeping her one eye closed. She was also hanging back from the group, but she was always kind of shy and kept to herself anyway, so hard to tell if this was a change in her or not. Once I got a look, her eye is all cloudy and I pretty sure she is blind in that eye. No discharge or swelling. The shininess in the pic is VetRx which we are wiping on her eye.

The other eye is fine. We have her quarantined in the garage just because we don't know if it is an infection or just an injury etc. I am hoping to get some expert insight on what the cause might be and if we can let her back outside with the rest of the gang.

Welcome...although there arE some diseases that can affect the eye, Mareks being one of them....I think hers may be either from injury or a cataract forming etc.... I would still quarantine her for a week or so and see if any other symptoms arise. I would stop the vetRX... That is like people's vapor rub...I would use a eye ointment like Terrimycian or neosporine in the eye....

Thanks, that is a relief. I hope she is ok. I will switch to neosporin. I thought that VetRx stuff smelled like VapoRub!
