Sudden chick death

Teflon is toxic to Budgies, I think I accidently killed ours one day using our teflon pan. I would place bets on the teflon pan in the oven. After I killed our 2 budgies, I would not use my pan over high heat and I have the birds well ventilated in another area of the house so the exposure is minimal if any at all (the pan I have is pretty old).

Hubby is suggesting CO poisoning; if you were using a gas stove that is not working properly...

Sorry about your babies, how sad! I hope you figure it out.

I ran the oven again today with our CO detector sitting right next to it, and it didn't alarm. I did some research on PTFE toxicosis, and a necropsy wouldn't conclusively prove that was the problem - they would only be able to tell that it was some inhaled toxin. Since the circumstances seem to match up so exactly, at this point I'm going to go with that as the cause.

I'll be getting more chicks, but will be doing some reading on keeping birds in the house first. I'm sure there's helpful info on canaries and such that can be applied to baby chicks temporarily occupying your spare bedroom.

Thanks for all your ideas and support. It's amazing how bonded one can get to some little creature you've only had for 5 days.

So sorry for you losses.

It's difficult enough to loose one let alone several. Yes, it is amazing how quickly we bond to them. I have 25 week old chicks right now. I would be devastated if I lost one. I did loose one chick about 3 days after I got my older pullets. It wouldn't eat or drink. I tried everything but it still died.
