Sudden death again

And have them all die from something at the place!

Ok, so I'm not trying to get off topic, or to get in the middle of the is $50 a worth while for necropsy thing but I do want to give my opinion. I probably would not spend the $50. I kind of agree with the you can get 25 chicks for $50 thinking, but I also understand they are eggs layers and you may or may not be attached to them. Personally I've never had a vet look at any of my hens, nor have I ever had a necropsy performed on any of my chickens after they passed. Maybe I would feel differently, if I had a string of unknown deaths, but I kind of doubt it.

As for the potato and Nightshade thing. I completely agree with Allie. I've fed all that stuff on that list to my chickens and have had exactly zero issues. I get a quantity of rotten potatoes from time to time and I just dump it in a bin where the chickens can get to them, they love all the worms. I'm not saying it isn't possible for a chicken to die from eating potato skins but personally I think it is pretty darn unlikely. Unless the chicken has another medical issue or is otherwise underfed. (I'm not saying you did anything wrong Hyroler), I really think the potato skins, and death we not related, again this is based off my experience. On that same token I have a friend who swears that giving bread to his chickens causes them to get plugged up. Another thing I've never seen happen.

I can't say for sure potatoe peels killed my chicken. It could of had heart attack.I will just say that chicken was perfectly healthy when it ate potatoe peels few hours later it was stiff as board.Who knows maybe the greedy little sucker choked on the potatoe peel.I didn't have autopsy done.I just bagged it and tossed in garbage.I know that sounds terrible to all the people who hand make coffins, find perfect resting place, dig 6 foot deep hole and have funeral ceremony with friends and relatives.Nothing wrong with that(if your coo coo) I just prefer express burial it's already scheduled to come by and empty garbage cans Thursdays.

I would check yard for plant or mushrooms that might be poisonous to chickens.

I haven't put mine out yet, but I do get mushrooms in the yard. Now I got to figure out how to get rid of the mushrooms. Thank you for bringing that up.

OP--I hope it gets figured out. Sorry for your losses

Hyroler, That is exactly what I do. Bag and trash. I know it probably sounds callis to some, but really it's not. Now I will admit we had a special goose (named pig) that was attacked a year or so ago and died from the injuries, he is buried on the place. As are a few other chickens, but most of the time we opt for the "express burial" as well. I think that should be come an offical expression lol.

We'll never know on your chicken, and heck maybe he over did it and I just haven't had it happen. Not to switch topics, but I came home tonight to find one of my youngish, chickens that was just intrigated into the flock a few days ago to be dead from a neck injury. Not sure exactly what happened and will probably never know, but opted for the "express burial" as well.

The best way get rid of mushrooms is carefully place plastic bag over them then pull them out of ground.Bag keeps spores from spreading.mushrooms release spores when they are disturbed those spores turn into more mushrooms.

sorry for your loss .express burials arent as emotional. If chicken werent so big i would teach you about Flush burials
Thanks... It's always sad when when of the birds dies even if the burial is not a traditional in ground at home type. We are on a septic tank so no flush burials of any kind for me.
