My chickens piled out of the coop all looking healthy and fine.

Big Gold Brahma rooster immediately sorts out one of the girls and starts to mate with her and.....DROPS DEAD.

Seemingly perfectly healthy before, eating, drinking and crowing fine yesterday.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why he died.

I am gutted....he was a lovely bird.

So Sorry for your loss....I lost my big Blue Cochin one morning he just dropped dead everyone I spoke to about it said it was probably a heart attack because he was a big boy....

Thank you,

I guess all organisms can have heart problems that we do not recognise.

I am so glad that I let his favourite brahma girl who had just gone broody again have a clutch of eggs to sit,

Thanks again,

Sandie

Sorry for your loss.
Did he seizure in any way? I lost a dark brahma hen last spring and just before she died she had some seizure type activity. DH said it was a heart attack. Of course just like in humans there may be several different forms of heart attacks.

Sorry to hear that you lost your rooster, too.

Yes, my rooster did have a fit.

He collapsed to the ground after mounting his favourite hen, convulsed for about 20 seconds and took a deep breath and died.

Other folk have also said that these large birds are rather prone to heart attack and heart failure.....won't stop me keeping these lovely birds though.

Definitely sounds like a heart attack. BTW, I lost a dark brahma hen, not my roo. My dark brahma roo, all 13 lbs. of him, is still running around making a jerk of himself. He's a goof, but I

him.
I do worry about the brahmas in this oppressive heat, but they seem to be doing just fine.
