Sudden Death..

Sudden death is not uncommon. I think it is a genetic fault of the bird and as they get to full size, the body cannot keep up. Once years ago, I lost one just as you describe, then 3 weeks later another one. I shrugged it off and a month later another one...really got a bit alarmed, but could find nothing wrong, the rest of the flock was healthy, active, and they were too, just dead the next day.

Anyway, never happened again for years! I must have just had a bad batch of a few chicks.

So I have had good luck with BO brooding chicks, but not like I understand silkies are like.
