Hello, I'm trying to see if I can get some second opinions on my 3.5 year old salmon faverolle. She has always been neurotic, but started acting especially fearful recently, hiding in the coop. This went on for a few days, until I found her flopped over in the run when I was closing the coop door for the night.
Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures then, but her face and eyes were completely swollen shut, and I didn't think she would survive the night (I thought she was dead when I found her). She sounded a little wheezy, but didn't have excessive nasal discharge or a purple comb. Regardless, I began immediately treating her assuming she had coryza, giving her electrolytes and amoxycillin.
The swelling rapidly diminished, and by the 6th day, most of it had gone and she could open both eyes. She is eating and drinking well, however, her vision still is bad. Her pupils are dilated, and though her eyes twitch when I shine a light directly into them, I don't think she can see much (if at all).
So, I thought maybe it could be something like mycoplasma, but she improved far more quickly than I would've thought if so. Then I remembered that weeks prior, her face on one side was puffed up by her beak. I assumed she got stung by something, now I'm wondering if it wasn't a sinus infection. But this swelling had gone away before this incident!
And lastly, aside from all of this, she has been having chronic ingrown feathers and overall poor feathering, which might be entirely unrelated, but thought it was worth mentioning.
I'm stumped so...thoughts? Was this a runaway sinus infection that initially dissipated and then came back full force? Something else? Any input is appreciated! I'm glad she has survived for now, but it's hard to guess her next steps.
I've attached some images of the swelling progression, as well as the feathers.
