My 3 year old hen Fennel is not looking good. Her stance is looking wide and she’s suddenly pigeon-toed. Her comb is purple, loose greenish stool and slightly laboured breathing. She will still eat and drink.
One of my other girls also has diarrhea and looks a bit lethargic as well. The other ones look fine so far.
I’m currently dealing with a rat issue around the coop, I’m thinking there is an association. Any advice?

What breed is Fennel? Have you felt between her legs? Is it squishy, hard, lumpy? Pictures of the bird and her poop would be helpful. Have you checked for mites/lice?

The purple comb is concerning and can indicate lack of oxygen. How is her breathing? Any recent stressors in her life?

How is she doing today?

Thank you so much for your reply. Fennel is a “Red X”. Her comb is looking less purple and she’s still eating and drinking. Her breathing is still laboured. No recent stressors that I’m aware of.

I felt her abdomen today and it’s very, very firm, not squishy or boggy at all. Perhaps there is a mass causing her widened stance and she’s walking pigeon toed to accommodate the weight imbalance? No signs of mites or lice that I could see. I was only able to get this one photo. She normally does not look round like this.
