Should I use sugar or honey how much do I put in considoring gallon amounts? Just going to get my chicks exited but sorta nervous.

Awww, you sound like me when I first got my chicks!! Sooooo excited, but so nervous!! I wouldn't give them sugar water unless they appear really weak, it can make pasty butt worse and can give them diarrhea. People only use it if you have a really weak chick just to give them a little boost of energy to get them eating and then its a really short term suggestion, no longer than a day really.

I would just watch them (make sure you dunk each chick's beak in the water so they know where it is) and if notice any problems you can reassess the sugar water idea or give them some hardboiled egg, extra vitamins, etc.

GOOD LUCK!!! And there are plenty of folks on BYC that will answer your questions, HAVE FUN with the lil buggers!!

I just use plain ole bottled drinking water ( my well water is kind of hard ) I don't understand why folks use sweet water for chicks, They have more than enough energy on a natch. JMHO

I use one cup to the gallon, well mixed (as in completely no solids left).

Put it in with them for about three or four hours, then pull it out, wash the waterer then refill with plain water or with a vitamin/electrolyte solution if you're going to use it.

.....Alan.
