Hello Everybody,

I hope all the BYC folks are good out there!

My Dad and I are contemplating getting another rooster.

As we are trying to get ideas, we thought of Ameraucana chickens.
Would anybody suggest that breed for a rooster?

We would prefer brown eggs,
but if it bred with a brown egg laying hen,
would the baby have brown or blue eggs?

And I believe that there are good breeds that have bad roosters and bad breeds that have great roosters,
but I want to know which of these breeds are more smarter of a idea for a rooster...

Here are some breeds: Which do you suggest?

Blue Cochin, Salmon Faverolle, Ameraucana, Speckled Sussex, and any others!

I want a sweet, protective, handsome and gentle rooster.

Thank you for always being so helpful, BYC members!
And I really hope that I am helpful when I answer one of your questions!

I have all the hens of the breeds listed up above except Ameraucana.

Thanks!

I love my Ameraucana Rooster. He's calm, and great with the flock. If you get a true Ameraucana (not an Easter Egger) he'll have the blue egg gene and when crossed with a brown egg layer, the offspring will lay green eggs.

Hello FridayYet,

Thank you so much!
I think the Ameraucana is on the list of good!
We have to think about it but I like what I'm hearing!

Hello FridayYet and Poultry Parent,

Is this what your Ameraucana's look like? I found the picture on the internet.
There is one for sale where I live that looks like this.

FridayYet,

Thank you for the photo, Sue is handsome!
Do you think the one in the photo I posted is as nice of a temperament as your Ameraucana variety?
