Suggestions on a good read?

Sue Grafton - ABC Mysteries; A for Alibi, B for Burglar, C for Corpse. She is up to U for Undertow.
J.D. Robb AKA Nora Roberts - The Death series (Eve Dallas)
James Patterson - The Alex Cross series
The Great Gatsby
The Lovely Bones
E.M. Forrester- Howard's End, a Room with a View.

I have a very ecliptic reading list

Quote:
All great books!

Dandelion Wine- Ray Bradbury (short lighthearted novel, my favorite for a long time)
Autism's False Prophets- Paul Offit (non-fiction)
"Colored" Fairy Books- Andrew Lang (fairy tale collection)
Leaves of Grass- Walt Whitman (poetry)
The Ancestor's Tale- Richard Dawkins (scientific non-fiction)
V for Vendetta- Alan Moore (comic book)
East of Eden- John Steinbeck (classic novel)
Nightfall and Other Stories- Issac Asimov (science-fiction, short stories)
His Dark Materials Trilogy- Phillip Pullman (young adult)

Well I think I've hit most of the bases anyway.

you should set aside the clive cusslers/glen becks of the literary world and go for something timeless.
something that speaks to the ages as opposed to...i dunno what those guys speak to.

my suggestion:
ANYTHING BY EARNEST HEMINGWAY
-my personal favorites: Old Man and the Sea; A Farewell to Arms

if you're looking for contemporary:
EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED
-by jonathan safron-foer

or

JARHEAD
-by anthony swofford

the name of the wind

I can honestly say it was one of the best books I've ever read. and I've read a lot of books.
also,
The lies of Locke Lamora
it is apparently a trilogy, but I've only read the first, and i loved it.
both are fantasy, although the first is of the traditional magical kind whereas the second has a more peter pan, pirates of the caribean adventurous mischievous feel to it.

Zeke and Ned by Larry McMurtry and Dianna Osanna

It is a historical fiction based on people and events in the Cherokee Nation in OK. You should then get a copy of the Killing of Ned Christie which is the investigation into the true story of Ned Christie.
The story and charachters are very colorful and in the fashion of Lonesone Dove. A absolute must read for western and historical fiction buffs!
