Sulmet

So I am trying to save my little silkie and went to the feed store and they gave me some sulmet. I poured 2 tablespoon in a gallon of water and after I poured some in a little container with some sugar. I just don't know how many times a day (and / or night) I have to give it to her and for how long. If someone can let me know I will really appreciate. Thanks

If you put the correct dose (as per bottle) in the water, then just only give that water. I know you want to treat for at least 3 days, but most of the time 5 is recommended. Watch for droppings with no blood. You shouldn't need to put sugar in the water either.

When my daughter got her silkies (They were around 3 weeks old) the were really floppy the evening we brought them home. I was really worried that night, but was hopeful that it was just stress since they were fine when we picked them out at the breeders'. The next morning they were all back to normal, but we treated with Sulmet for 4 days since the breeder told us silkie chicks tend to have coccidiosis problems in general.

Sulmet is given full strength for 2 days, then 1/2 strength for 5 days, if I recall correctly. Can't do it for just 3 days for cocci. Can't give it by mouth, has to be in the water, but I don't have a bottle for the actual dose since I don't use it anymore.

Corid is the preferred cocci med. Corid is preferred over Sulmet. Sulmet is harder on their intestines, can actually make the bleeding continue longer, and is not effective against all types of cocci. Corid is concentrated amprolium, same med as in the chick starter, but at a higher dosage.



Here are the bottle directions I found online:

Dosage: Poultry: Add 2 tablespoons (1 fl oz) to each gallon of drinking water


Administration: Chickens and Turkeys: Add the required dose given above to that amount of water that will be consumed in 1 day. Water consumption should be carefully checked to insure adequate drug intake. As a generalization, 100 turkeys will drink 1 gallon of water per day for each week of age; chickens will consume one-half this amount.

Coccidiosis (in chickens and turkeys): Medicate as above for 2 days, then reduce amount of Sulmet Drinking Water Solution to one-half above for 4 additional days.

I went to the feed store, and got some corid. She was doing really good today, eating and drinking by herself but tonight she seems so lethargic, laying on her side by herself and doesn't even move when I grab her. I hope she doesn't die, but unfortunately it doesn't look too good. Another thing I noticed, she doesn't grow like the other one, she is so tiny!
As for the corid, I diluted 1 teaspoon in a gallon of water and I poured some in a cup with some sugar. When I gave it to her, she took it well, but I was wondering how many times a day and or night do I have to give?

Some birds are more affected than others, more intestinal damage, so some may not make it while others don't even show symptoms.

So I woke up this morning and she made it, but my little sebright who was doing great die. I am so sad because yesterday they were cuddling together and now she is dead. I have no idea why she die. I know it is just a matter of time for my little silkie, she is not growing and looks so lethargic. Should I treat everybody with corid? Is it contagious?
