Sulmtalers Thread

Welcome BirdbyGavin1103. I do not have adult Sulmtalers so hopefully someone that does can address your question about temperament around children. I do know that around other breeds of chickens they are very docile and mix well. I googled and found a link that talked about Capone Sulmtalers and feed conversion. http://agris.fao.org/agris-search/search/display.do?f=2009/SI/SI0902.xml;si2009000064
There is lots of info on the Facebook link in my signature also.

Hi everyone.
I do not have any Sulmtalers yet but I am looking into getting some, in the next year or two, along with some American Bresse (black and white). I love the coloring of the Sulmtares, and the Bresse and would love to try helping to expand the breeding stock. Although my primary intention is to raise for family and possibly sell at the small store my future FIL is building, and should be opening before too long. I am working on caponizing my hatchery stock cockerels (still doing research and getting the tools around along with practicing on birds I've processed), and will be doing this with the bresse, maybe the sulmtares, depending on how things go.
Now I did notice the last few entries and while I wish I could help right now, I want to have at least 2 more coops and for my special breeds before I even think of buying these beautiful birds.
I do want to ask, how is their temperment? I have a young (7 yrs old) son and we plan on more children. So ANY birds I look into buying need to be of a fairly pleasant disposition, for the most part (I know it can differ from bird to bird just like any animal).

I have found the Sulmtalers to be very docile and even a little shy but not flighty or skittish. I raise my chicks in groups of 60 and the Orps and Basque are very assertive making the shy Sulmtalers reluctant to come in too close for treats. I think their shyness may have more to do with the dynamic of the large groups of chicks I raise. I have noticed that they come around at about 8 -10 weeks old when most of the others juvies have been sold and the group is smaller. I been growing my Sulmtaler flock so I keep most of the chicks I hatch and have been very happy with the temperaments of both the pullets and the roosters.

Thank you. I hope that when we get ours they are like your's. Ours will be in their own flock, or possibly with only a few spare hens, so I'm hoping they will come around at a younger age.

There is a new group member asking if anyone has Sulmtalers for sale near East Texas over on the Sulmtaler Chickens USA facebook page. Anyone?
Yes, I do. I have pullets and roos and can ship, but we would need to ship soon or it will be too hot. It may already be too hot in TX. Widget Creek likely has some too.

He is wanting someone within driving distance of East Texas so he can pickup the chicks. I dont know of anyone in that neck of the woods. The breeders I know of are California, Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. What state(s) did I miss!

GFF posted it was a surprise hatch. It's pictured with their Gold Duckwing Sulmtalers so I suspect it cropped up from that line. Widget Creek said the white line doesn't exist anymore. I wonder if GFF realize what they have.
