these are all from the ferral flock. Live in tree's mostly and free range as they please all day. A couple dozen of the hens and a few roosters do coop themselves at night. The remaining 35 ish sleep in tree's.

I did a head count of my Sumatra's the the morning. I counted 74 and probably missed a few. I figure 10 more roosters need to head to freezer camp real soon. So I'm starting off the Sumatra broody season with 64 Sumatra's.

FYI every egg you got was an egg from a hen born from a broody. So chances are you will have broody hens. Also chances are you have 2 roosters and 2 hens

yep sarge 50-50 on a black to blue breeding, and yes they are very hard to sex til they get older unless you just have been around them for year and can look at the minor differences.

this is a really good idea put on the egg shipping box no x-rays and that will help you have better hatch rates.
it can, but most damage is from ruptured air cells from being shipped and handled very ruffly. no amount of anything you can put on the box to stop them from doing that. Just pack the ever loving heck out of them and make sure the eggs cant move at all in the egg cartons is about all you can do. Once they leave us and get in the postal system, well they are gone do what they want with them as bad as it is to say. Most of it's automated, coveyor belts and stuff. I did have a new guy at or PO grab up some boxes and start slinging them across the room into a cart behind him. Right in front of me, bold fully labeled boxes. never even looked til I yelled at him across the room and his manger saw them, she's good friends with me and crwaled his butt... but just goes to show, dont matter what you put on the box really. Packing is the best protection, and even then it's a risk

putting labels such as fragile can have the opposite affect. A friend of mine worked his way through college working for UPS. He said the entire night crew would see a package boldly labeled Fragile and purposely mistreat it. So all you can really do is what you said. Pack the crap out of the box and hope they don't mistreat it.

I recently had a damage claim through UPS and I'm sure the automated USPS is similar. They told us that the conveyors have up to a SIX FOOT DROP FALLING OFF THE CONVEYOR INTO A BIN OR THE NEXT CONVEYOR! And they wonder why things break.....

i wonder if those shock sensors would help? you know the ones the myth busters use to determine if a shoch wave is deadly or not? they were designed to be used in the shipping industry!!!
