Sumatra Thread!

oh still hunting a couple bantam males too if anyone runs across some good ones. Trying to get a hold of Tom Kernan but cant find his e-mail address if anyone happenes to have it. Talked to Doug Akers , he was out for now

I'll quote you again Michael haha

love that khaki bantam!
The duns I have from you are looking great, and VERY black faced. Been out since you sent them to me and darkened right up. Looking forward to working with them this year
The khaki has strange leg color that I've never seen before. The shanks are green but the bottoms of the feet are almost pure white and he has a light face and soft feathers. I figure that crossed to some of the really typey and small bantam blacks, I should get some decent dun bantams.

Great to hear on the birds I sent you! There is someone who purchased duns from me this past year that wasn't pleased so they've been trying to smear my farm name, saying I sent them red faced birds and all sorts of horrible things which is why we're going to be more selective on purchasers this year. The black hens that are in with the dun rooster all came from a good friend this past year. His birds don't have the best tail spread yet but they have longer legs and longer tails with good combs and dark faces. I think it's because they're so calm compared to our line of near-feral birds but the lines combined should make some awesome birds. All of the black hens from last year and all of the dun hens are in with 2 nice looking black cockerels from the same line of blacks as the new hens. I also have a blue hen with them as well to improve the blues.

So this year looks to be promising as far as improving the birds. If all goes as planned, I think we want to try to take some sumatras to the Ohio show in November and see how they stack up against all of the "show winning" sumatras.

sounds like a good route to go on the khaki, good lcuk with him, love that color in anything.
as for the diggle berry with your birds, they obviously dont know what they are looking at, or have it sheltered 24/7... the ones I have from you are excellent as were all the others at that time that were listed for sale on the site... some folks just have nothing better to do. If you ever need a reference on your's, send 'em to me, will be happy to tell them about mine.

Good luck with all the breeding this spring, hope you get what you're looking for.

should be a neat oe once grown.
I had a silkie hen that I couldn't keep outta the sumatra pen, guess she was in love with the sumatra rooster and not the silkie rooster
