Sumatra Thread!

did you make these or are they from a breeder?
I put my girl in with my yokohama trio and so far have 3 babies! all silver and gold except one who is darker than the rest hardly any white other than on the belly and wing tips. anyone else have a Sumatra cross that came out nice?
that sounds nice for sure, be sure and post some pics once you can, would love to see them.

I have done all the breeding work on all the other colors, and have a start on the brown reds, but no these particular birds came from a guy Champion Sumatra told me about a while back, he was a bit furthur along in his brown red project than I was so I got a few to add in with mine. Was pretty pleased with what he had done with them, they certainly got me ahead a couple years. Waiting to see how the tails fill in after thier first adult molt, I hope the get a little fuller. If not that's once thing I was to improve on. The have good carriage and leght, just I like a fat full tail. Hens look pretty darn good, feet are glowing yellow on them all, and the males have a nice string of spurs for young birds, so he's done his home work on them for sure. Just a little fine tuning and they'll be there

I really like the hen, very nice! The male still looks like a game bantam, but a very nice start
yep that was my impression with them too Michael.
The hens are all pretty much spot on, but you can still see the oegb influence in the males. He told me that up front though, but all in all from starting with that, like Champ said, he has really come a long way in getting type back. Im breeding them to my smallest blacks right now, the back cross next year I hope will make some pretty good looking ones.

Good Luck, keep us posted, really cool looking birds

(just so everyone knows, infinityheart is my madre)

What has me curious is the face color of the males. Don't the brown red/birchen games normally have dark faces? I think most of the brown reds I have seen have the dark faces which would be great for sumatras. Just an observation.
They are coming along nicely, the type is getting there for the female, roosters always take longer to refine anyway. Just like the phoenix. I have some legbar cross pullets that could pass as a tufted/tassled phoenix when they get older but they're not. If I would have kept a cockerel, I'm sure he wouldn't look right. A couple more generations and it'll be there

When you complete this brown breeding I think yo should name them the igneous sumatra, do you remember that rooster I posted a while back(Bruce) he is not a cross at all and he has lovely colouring. I'll post some pics of the chicken later. I'm getting pics ready for going back to England.

LL
maybe its my computer screen, but does the hen have a white or bluish tinted earlobe? They are pretty, congrats on them
