no, just luck of the draw, the average on blue to black is 50 % each, but that's just an odds number, could be more either way, just depends on what genetics each embryo inherits.
You were just a little over averge on the blues is all

With a black hen I tend to get 90% to 100% black. I've had a few hatches that were as low as 75% but few. I have to work at it, to get enough blues.....

mine did that last year too, blue roo to my black hens
This year it was totally opposite, 80% blue hatch
so again it's just an odds game. No rule on what will hatch, just an over all average

Hi folks. I have an updated picture of the mystery color chick that is supposedly a Sumatra. She is 7 weeks old. Tell me what you all think:

Still has the large nostrils:

I'll send a picture to the breeder I got the eggs from and see what they have to say. I sure hope the other ones I got from them are what they said they were. They didn't mention having any Sptiz. The fact that it looks like a Spitz is just kind of a weird coincidence, since I also hatched out Spitz eggs in the same batch. The Spitz eggs came from Ohio, the "Sumatra" eggs came from just 40 mintues away. I also have their Jersey Giants and Marans. We'll see how they develop.

I don't know if you can tell, but in you can kind of see in the last two pictures a little tiny poof on it's head. I have been wondering what that was from.
