We are new to Sematras. Do you get mixed colors when you breed and hatch them? It was my understanding you get what you breed in birds and you don't mix colors when you breed.I must have missed that part. What I meant was I would be THRILLED with only 1 black. The best rate I have gotten is 60% blue 40% black. Usually with my flock it is the other way around, and yeah once in a great while a nice little splash
you can breed black to black and still expect 20% to be blue. Don't beleive everything you google on Sumatra's. 99% ofit (besides what is on this thread) is just WRONG.We are new to Sematras. genetics. Just how it works. Breed black on black and expect at least 20% to be blue.So if a black Sumatra who has no blue grandparents or parents, still be able to breed blue at random?
I always thought black to black was 100% black, here is a good simple link about breeding black, blue, and splash.http://briarwoodpoultry.weebly.com/breeding-blue-poultry.html Hope it helpsgenetics. Just how it works. Breed black on black and expect at least 20% to be blue.
I'll take 5 years of personal breeding experience over something read on the internet. That link mean nothing. Sorry but it doesn't. The real world of Sumatra's says different. Guess it just depends on what genes your sumatras are carrying, In the 9 years I've bred my line I get 100% black when breeding black to black.I'll take 5 years of personal breeding experience over something read on the internet.
