Sumatra Thread!

Is it me or is There beef between stony kill and flying monkey poo?

I had to split my Sumatras up after coming home from school to find my Sumatra cockerel out of his electric poultry wire. My brother bought some golden brahmas(cock and two hens) and they have been with my older Sumatra cockerel and his hen, my cockerel has been boss of the brahma for months now, but today from this day forward it has changed. The brahma has put my Sumatra in his ace so I had to split them up. It's annoying because the brahma and Sumatra were fine with each other, but I guess the brahma has just rebelled.

But I read what michaels dad said about the Sumatras having long tails and short legs, so I thought about it and I agree we should try restore the Sumatras to the written standard. So I put my leggy hen with my shorter legged cockerel, and put my shorter legged hen with my longer legged cockerel. I have to say I hate stumpy legged Sumatras they are just ugly.

Just had to ask. Not trying to be a sh*t sturer or anything its just All the intense conversation.

that is just passion from my end. I am passionate about my birds and can only report on the results of my flock. Passion kicks in when I'm told I'm wrong about my own experiences with my own flock.
I'm the outcast here. I don't and will never show. I think most of you do or want to. To each there own. My flock is simply a heritage homestead flock. Truly feral, instinctual and as natural as they come.
As I stated red is a naturally occuring color in Sumatra's. In the past I have always killed handsome roosters with red on them. Now I see youguys or at least some of you like them. So I have 2 red roosters set aside to breed.

To each their own. Like I said I get passionate when I'm told my results from my own flock are wrong. That is all. Off to ship 2 dz more hatching eggs. Selling 6 to 8 dz a week

I think this bird of mine should have the standard for red Sumatras written on his looks. Im talking about this standard like it is already invented, I know it isn't but I think it should become a stadard colour.who on this thread like this colour?

I have one like him but even better. Except for now as he is moulting. I have another young red head who I think will look even better yet. I get a few a year as red naturally occurs in Sumatra's. Even though SOP say not, it does.
Good looking boy you have there.

I don't feel there are any bad feelings between us. We are both passionate about the breed but see things differently. That is what helps make a good group of folks to discuss things with since we don't all have the same view points or ways of thinking. It prevents us from being like sheep in our mindsets.

About the red, I have always said that it is better to have red leak through than silver because the gold/red is what gives them the great sheen. In my experience, birds that leak silver tend to be dull and plain. We had a little bantam hen that had a hint of red in one of her primaries. Every once in awhile we'll get a bird that leaks gold but we never breed from it, it is just a nice reminder that we are dealing with gold based birds.

I dIdnt know you could get a silver or gold blending in the feathers. I have a hen who has a big brown sickle feather, I want to breed her with the cockerel Up top. If I can selectivley breed brown do you think there's a chance of it becoming a standard colour ?

What's your top three favourite breeds?
