Now just becuse i don't follow the standard in the weight dose not mean i dont follow the standard. I breed for all these things it calls for and I don't have standard with me right now so i will have to have it in my head. You want to breed for nice short round head and short beak, dark horned color to the beak, dark eyes and face, willow to dark willow colored legs with bottoms being yellow, multible spears, angle of males horizontal and females havering a15 degree angle tail, a nice long back, a long arched neck, a full Brest for males and females not upright, color for a blue sumatra is having nice dark lacing with a stalelish blue in the middle with no white or red in the feathers, black Sumatra's having a nice green blue sheen not a purple sheen and no positive white or red in feathers, no white ear lobes, medium length legs. Small pea combs and wattles, nice clean legs, humm trying to think what comes to mind. wings pointing slightly down, nice full tail, nice width to the wingand tail feathers. I follow a lot...not trying to start up the fight but it is wrong to tell people that they are not going by the standard when it is clearly one thing.

Pretty good from memory actually. I'm not gonna fight about it, but you really can't ignore part of the standard and still say you are breeding to standard. If I was breeding sumatras that fit everything in the standard but I decide I want to breed for 45 degree tail angles, but breeding to everything else the standard says, I wouldn't be breeding to the standard would I?

I'd have to agree.

Again, I'm not condemning your abilities of breeding Sumatras. I just am throwing out some advice just as you have in the past, breeding to all aspects of the standard is very different to picking and choosing what you want to follow. Again just my personal opinion, and clearly others are entitled to their own.

I agree with boggy, it seems a lot of the birds that get a picture on here get torn apart. It's easy to give bad points on a bird, but why not be positive and give good points. Like the hen I posted a picture of, I know she has a poor tail and there's probably other things you guys can point out that's bad about her, but what are the hens good points?

Any ways how are you guys?
What have you been up to lately?
And how are your chicken?
At the minute what's your favorite bird you own and why?

Hi all...:) on a lighter note! I have always heard that sumatras are "untamed jungle fowl". I think they are beautiful though, so when I saw a bin of yokohama and sumatra cockerel chicks at the feed store for $1.55 each I grabbed a bunch to raise as moving lawn ornaments. I ended up with four beautiful yokohama males, one sumatra male and a VERY sweet little hen. She was spurred by our resident leghorn rooster her first day outside so I brought her back in for a few days to tend to her injury. She has ended up being by far the sweetest bird I've ever had. After she healed up I put her back outside with the other birds, but after weeks of her sneaking back in the house and me waking to find a chicken sleeping with me, she has become an official house chicken. I really don't care if she is standard however if I post a pic ov her would y'all tell me her good and bad points? She is about four months old.
