I didn't mean for it to come off as it was totally wrong. I understand that not everyone can have a rooster to breed their own birds. I just want my kids to work for and earn whatever it is they earn, even if it's just a good job from me and a bird that they know they raised from a chick. Since the kids started asking about showing a year ago, I have been doing some reading on it and the idea of just handing the kid a bird to show without the kid having done anything doesn't strike me as fair. So I told my kids that they would have to be in charge of their birds all the way from egg to show cage. I plan to help when/ if need be, but in the end they will say which will go and which wont. My hope is that they learn from it in a lot of different aspects and have fun, even though they will probably only do a show or 2 a year.I agree when I win with a bird I bought I do credit the breeder or if I win with a bird from only one line I will credit the winning line. I feel it is only fair to let the credit be spread, but I also feel it is half the credit of the owner who has fed, cleaned and cares for the bird to make sure it looks the way the breeder intended. All in all the type of the bird and relation to the SOP should be credited to the breeder and the condition of the bird should be credited to the exhibitor.
I really didn't mean for it to sound mean, sorry if it did.
