Sumatra Thread!

Thanks, we have a pretty decent camera, if the bird is standing correctly it is very hard to take a bad photo with this camera.
At the minute the game bird is in with two sumatra hens so i might incubate about 5 of their eggs and see what they turn out like.
Hope you liked holding your new game bird. Are you going to take pictures of your other new chickens?

ETA I actually got the one here out and took a few pictures, but he is in a molt so half his tail is gone. Still not as nice looking as yours though, even when he has all of his tail.

Ill go out in a bit and get some pictures of my other new birds. The game bird is like one solid lump of muscle, just holding him hurts your wrist.
I do love the way the game act compared to other poultry, like the game bird is a real gent to his hens he doesn't tred them to much he always tells them when theres food.

All roosters are different, it's not a breed thing. I have seen a polish mixed rooster bring his hen food everyday. Good luck with your game/ sumatra cross, if they hatch you'll have to post pictures as they grow.

ill post pictures if they hatch, i just got some pictures of the new pekins and my young light sussex. On sunday we went to a show and i saw some young exchequer
leghorns so i bought one for a friend it is very cute.I didnt get any pictures of the new sumatras because they are in a small pen and they are not tame at all so i wont risk getting them out.

i think he is supposed to be a blue splash but he has little bits of brown in him. Ill try crossing him with the black pekin hen and see what i get, i personly prefer the mottled pekin.

Ok so opinions and info needed please....

My son wants to have chickens with long tails like Sumatras, however he wants WHITE feathers. I've seen white Sumatra Bantams, but I really prefer LF. I,ve never seen a LF white Sumatra.

Do they exist?
If not, I have some white bantam wyandottes, white orpingtons and white Plymouth rocks. I suppose I could cross any of them and see what happens....

Thoughts?

P.s. I really don't want to get another breed to try this. :p

@ Ramirez: thank you for the quick reply! I got stuck at the day job counting down the hours until chicken time! Any chance you recognize the color on the phoenix cockerel?

As for the bachelor pad...now you got me rethinking everything. Like I could probably keep more roosters if they were bantams

in smaller runs! I've probably drawn out 20 different designs and change it with every tidbit of advice extracted off this site.

Oops....ps, the Sumatras are just under 9 weeks old.

@ Raph: What a beautiful Roo and wonderful photography to boot! Congrats!

No guess on the sex but if these are Sumatra roos that you want to free range outside a large pen of hens if you don't have them covered in netting they will fly over the fence. Ignore if I misread your description of the hen's housing.

There are white Phoenix with long tails. Of course that is another breed to add. Here is a video of Cackle Hatchery's Bantam White Phoenix.
