id love a dun or chocolate bird in general. or a dun. i have large and bantam blacks, bantams from Duane Urch, the large are Shock lines. id really like a dun/chocolate male to breed to my hens but never seen any other colors besides BBS..... does anyone have pics of the other colors.

Toni-Marie gave me a project dun bantam cock. I am breeding it with my pure black hens right now, this breeding should have them pretty darn close... the khakis are one I really look forward to, will let you know how it goes..also have 6 bantam white eggs in the incubators now.
Already have some going good in bantam phoenix too.

Hello, I thought i would post my question here. I just hatched out 3 LF Sumatra chicks last week from my breeder aquired black rooster and the 3 blue hens that I bought with him. 2 chicks are the expected dark greyish/blue color and one is a very pale grey, sort-of white bird. It even has some yellowish look to it. Is a light colored bird a normal color to get? This one looks like it might be almost pure white. Anyway, what did we hatch out here? Thanks!

I don 't have any splash. We only have the black rooster and blue hens. The only other remote possibility is a blue French Marans rooster before we separated the breeds and the hens wanted nothing to do with him and he seemed to be leaving them alone. The legs are not feathered. We had them apart for 2 weeks, so I suppose Elvis could have managed to breed her and fertilize an egg. I guess time will tell on this one. Thanks! Stacy

yeptime will tell...black to blue as an average gives 50% of those two colors..shouldnt be any splash, but from your discription that has to be what it is...do you have a pic of it, that'd help narrow it down. Only other obtion would be they arent pure sumatra

How did I miss this thread?!?!?!?

I have 18 Sumatra's. And just hatched 12 more a week ago. And have 5 eggs set under a broody. They are simply the best birds I've ever had temperment wise. The girls are sweet. The boys, are good protectors for their girls, and so great with humans. All very gentle personable birds.

Everywhere I read on the egg laying ability it says poor, 2 eggs per week. I'm convinced this is why people don't buy them. My experience is this is total garbage. My Sumatra hens average 4 eggs each per week.

I've got more pics. As I said, I feel Sumatra's are the best breed out there...bar none! Smart, fun, sweet, and still full of natural instincts. And lets not forget beautiful!
