Sumatra Thread!

We went through and finally caught all the sumatras, banded them, and put them in their pens. It looks like we have a total of 14 LF that are dun or black and we will be adding more to our flock next week from a good friend who decided to focus more on the bantams. I was looking over the birds we picked up from the trader last week and the 2 sweet blacks that I thought were cockerels are turning out to be pullets, the dirt on them and the thin feathers were throwing me off but as we were banding today, what looked like saddle feathers are looking like normal rounded feathers. We were hoping for cockerels but either way we can use them.
For bantams we have a total of 20. A couple of those are so dark blue that I could have swore they were solid black until I saw the sun hitting them just right and it showed the lacing. Looks like we'll have to breed blues together this coming season to brighten it up. We have one runty dun hen that will be put with our smaller cockerel to work on dun bantams. Also the khaki looks to be bantam so he will be bred to some of our smaller blacks to work on another line of bantams

my black sumatra hen Mary lays eggs every single day. I am happy that at least I got a bunch of even colored blues out this year.

last year I got a bunch of bark blues.

this was the first sumatra I ever got. I never got the chance to breed her because she died.

Hey, do any of you guys have any really nice Sumatras for sale? if you do, please send me some pics of the head, the bottom of the feet, as well as the whole bird. I really need some other bloodlines to mix in with my sumatras. The line that my birds come form is a Sumatra breeder in Safford, AZ named James Smith. Everyone in the area has his line of sumatras and I do not want to inbreed. Thanks for the help!

newest brood. The hen named "Mama" is on her 3rd brood of the year. Here they are 3 days ago. Their 1st day off of the nest.

will next spring but all mine are bantam sized. They are pretty spot on for bantams though, you can see the yellow pads with them standing on them. not that mottled patchy yellow a lot have, solid bright yellow

bantams are cool. but I am looking more for the large fowl sumatras.

We will have some next year. Most of our birds that we will be breeding from next year have bright yellow orange solid bottoms and good heads. If you're interested in some eggs this coming spring just let me know

FMP's birds are great, I just got a trio of duns from Michael and they are awesome if that helps, very gamey
