Summer Quilt Block Swap-Due August 15th.

Where the black one came from is beyond me, as I don't have any black roos that are big enough to make little ones, the hens are well protected by a golden laced wyndotte and the only other male roo I have is a RIR, the moms can be either a buff or a RIR guess only time will tell.

From what I understand, golden laced wyandottes hatch black.

Anyone want to do an extra set or know someone who would like to sew fast and join?

I'm thinking about it. Need to check my supplies and see what I have and try to figure out a quick, easy block that I can bang out fairly quickly.

Well that makes since seen as the wyandotte was a rehome when he was about 7mos. so I never saw him as a chick, hope this one is a hen, and my other hens I'm hoping the RIR will take some for himself. I have a RiR hen I am letting her sit on one egg as I don't really need any new babies, but I did set 4 eggs in the incubator, as soon as the young flock is old enough I will sell the roos out of that batch. and then I have the 3 from the bannie, the one from the RIR and my 4 in the incubator, why are chickens like potato chips you just can't have one. I have 22 birds and two turkeys that free range all day and I don't even lock their pen anymore, and they have their roost outside so half don't even go into the pen anymore, gettting ready to build another coop in a better spot and then maybe they will go in easier. Their pen just has gotten flooded so many times I'm waiting for it to dry out so they really don't go sloshing in the mess to get to the hen house. I know I have been lucky as far as predators but have not had any and they have been doing this for over a year now..

Just one? So funny! I have elderly neighbors that finally decided to barter for chicks. It has been about 3 mths or so. She heard that I wanted to sell the 1 single comb silkie cockeral so she said she wanted it. She had planned to keep it alone in a separate (rabbit) cage. I told her chickens need friends and could die of loneliness. The next day she decided she didn't want it so it wouldn't get lonely! Selling just 1 can be tough but you can tell 'chicken people' that have more for friends.

Hi all I sent my blocks off yesterday, now I want them back so I can do them over. This was my first quilting in 3 yrs, I know that I can do better.

One egg? I do a minimum of three. That way if one dies before hatching or one isn't fertile, there will still be two and if they both hatch then they'll have a buddy when Mom gets tired of being a mom. If only one hatches, she will at least get off the nest in three weeks and not waste away for nothing. It's too hot to be doing that but I have two broodies going right now. One started with 6 eggs, 3 were fertile. Hers are due tomorrow, I believe. The other started with 3 eggs, 1 disappeared, one died, and there is one left that should hatch hopefully within a couple days. It's hard to break a broody so I would just rather let her hatch a few chicks out.

Did you put the eggs in the incubator at the same time as your broody started? At least that way if something happens, she'll have chicks to take care of and not stay broody!

Yes the eggs should hatch at the same time, so I 'm hoping she will take the bator chicks, the banny had her 2 out today showing them how to scratch, guess I should have given lady red 2 eggs but she can have the bator babies. I heard if you put ice under a broody that the coolness will break her that its lowers the temp and the hormone levels drop, don't know if that works.
