Their breeding and that means more mouths to feed and right next to a food source.

I have a door on my coop and always put the feed in the garage at night and never leave eggs inside the coop

We have had a possum get through chain link for our chickens. My dad heard noises and walked down the driveway to our coop to see what was going on. He shot it as it was entering the coop, just be wary of them. They are omnivores after all. I honestly think it was searching for chicken feed/eggs more than chickens.
