Sunburn- any remedies?

I agree the aloe with lidocaine gel.
Vinegar should not be put on a burn. That's an old's wives tale. Vinegar dries out your skin when what your skin needs is extra moisture.

Aloe for sure. If you can run to the store, get some soalrcaine, that stuff is amazing!! I had gotten burned so bad once when I was a teen, that I had blisters that were 2 inches across and stood out at least an inch, all over my back. The only thing that we could put on it was solarcaine spray, it was to sensitive to rub anything on. Solarcaine also makes a cream, and there is even a solarcaine aloe vera gel.

Make sure whatever lotion you use does not have an oil base. Keep it a water base or you could cause more damage to the skin.

Exactly. Oil will hold the heat in and cause the burn to go deeper. Solarcaine makes the aloe gel with lidocaine that I use. Love that stuff. Soothes bites too.

The herbal infused oils I mentioned are proven affective, and I've used them myself. Calendula and St. John's Wort both have antiflamitory, bactericidal, fungicidal, and antiviral properties. Can't say much about preventing scarring though. But I would agree that putting a stick of store bought butter on a burn won't help. Course, thats just my opinion.

I love Solarcaine, its great stuff for burns, bites and scratches!

I use an aloe gel from the drugstore. Walmart carries it too. It's blue. I think it's called Ice or something like that. It even worked when I accidentally spilled hot bacon grease on my hand a few weeks a go.

Taking a lukewarm bath with some tea bags or oatmeal (or Aveeno) thrown in really helps, keep hydrated (both inside and out - drink lots of water and keep the skin as moist as you can, calendula cream is good stuff for that) and take any anti-inflammatory meds, like tylenol.

Solarcaine is great stuff too.

I've been badly burned twice in my life and remember how soothing the bath was. Hope it heals soon!
