Sunday bath (Pic Overload)

WOW!!! What a freakin beautiful duck!

Yeah, I couldn't tell if her bill was just a faded black or blue. I think she's better than a blue runner.

I do like those dark bills on white ducks. I thought maybe it was a WH cross since they have dark bills and the silver hens can look almost white.

I don't know why silvers aren't more widely available--they always get "wow" reactions. The "white" with black bill is indeed a silver. Many breeders classify them as "blue" because they are simply blue with two blue dilution genes instead of the usual one. In a blue x blue breeding, roughly 25% of the offspring will be silver, which is another reason I don't understand why they're not more widely available-you'd think anyone breeding blues would have plenty of silvers to spare too.

Holderread, among others, simply sells them as "blues." Perhaps because as hatchlings they are not always easy to tell apart, although the silver we received was noticeably paler than the other blues in her batch even as a day-old. Unfortunately, our silver was a boy & we re-homed him. But I expect plenty of silvers out of my blue x blue matings this spring. I plan to sell them as silvers!

Now I see how it's so easy to get out of control with ducks. I rescued one, joined this forum, bought two ducklings, bought a Saxony hen, talked to another BYC'er and plan to get incubating Saxony eggs next spring, and NOW I want one of your soon to be silver runners.

Yep, she was a blue from Metzer's who wasn't all that blue. She had blue legs and bill and darker fluff when she arrived, but as she grew, she got lighter... feet too.

I emailed them and they offered a blue replacement since that's what we ordered, but I told them we wanted a white one too, so we had them both wrapped up in one LOL
Blue when she arrived.

without that blue bill, it was hard to tell Blue from Ally sometimes if you just got a quick look at her going by!

If it weren't for the blue legs, that easily could have been Ally

getting older and less blue

I saw gofasterstrip's blue babies when she got them and thought "she was supposed to look like that? what did I get??" That's when I emailed metzer's. I didn't care, but was curious.

Wow, how cool! Thanks for sharing the pics! Between the OP's adorable bath pics, and your neat hen, it's almost cuteness overload!

Yeah I remember that 1st photo. I was like....how come 1 of your F & Ws has a blue bill...it was Blue and I fell in love with her. She is so stricking being so white with that dark bill. My favorite blue one died, she was a light blue wth black flecks all threu her, I think the blue I have left is going to be a dark 1 like my drake. But im holding ut that Curiositycat will have Blues this year...fingers crossed.

Oh I hear ya!!!
my Dh was working away from home, I always wanted ducks so ordered 2 from Metzers....it wouldnt go thru so in the end went up to 6 and it accepted my order. Then I went back and ordered a Jumbo Pekin. Got them all on the same day, I knew hubby wasnt going to be home for a few weeks, I needed time for them to grow so he would fall in love too. Then I went and got 2 drakes from Curiositycat, then once he was home we went the jockey lot and I came home with 4 female Pekins. Then while he was at work 1 day I called a guy and went and picked up 8 Khakis then last week I went and got 3 Pekin x Swedish mixes. 2 babies have since died Yep...you do the math
Im now at..erm....erm. hold up, I dont have enough fingers and toes!!! (22) and that since mid August!!

GORGEOUS DUCKS, love their fluffy faces. I'm sure it's in the thread somewhere, but, what breeds are they?
