Emberstar preened her shiny black and brown laced feathers on one side of the clearing. Gingerclaw scratched in the dirt for some insects, and she called to the other claws when she found a heap of worms hiding beneath the rich, soft soil.

On the edge of RavenFlock's territory a sleek black bird slipped through the shadows across their borders. Her footsteps were light and confident, even though she was entering hostile territory, but her eyes and ears were peeled for signs of danger.

A dusty brown game hen roosted in a spruce, hidden by the tree's bushy needles. They poked into her skin, but they didn't draw blood or even cause pain. Her yellow eyes seemed to glow almost as she scanned the forest floor, her gaze landing upon the silhouette of a strange bird. She flicked her tongue a bit crossly, and kept watching. All that could be seen to the black bird was an almost unnatural shine from the spruce tree for a split second, but there were no other signs of the observant little hen.

All that could be seen to the black bird was an almost unnatural shine from the spruce tree for a split second, but there were no other signs of the observant little hen.

With her eyes peeled, the black hen caught a small flicker of light from the spruce tree. Her eyes narrowed in concentration, trying to spot it again, but couldn't. She edged closer into the shadows, her dark plumage providing some amount of camouflage as she proceeded deeper into RavenFlock territory.
