So I was reading the list from the link on BYC for what treats a good for chickens.

I gave mine yogurt for the first time lastnight .... WHOA .... they loved it

Then some cooked oatmeal this morning with blueberries & strawberries.... not as big of a hit as the yogurt but they finished it.

I got a bag of sunflower seeds (with the shell still on) because its says that they are good for laying hens and for the feathers... They wont eat them! They keep trying to "chew" them with their beaks... and then spitting 'em out.

What gives?

No idea. Mine go nuts for them. Could they possibly be treated with some chemical that tastes bad to the chickens?

they're just regular black oil sunflower seeds that you give to birds.... I checked label and there is nothing else added.

Do you give them the black oil or the striped?

well i guess ill have to give the 10lb bag to all the wild birds i feed.

maybe ill sprout some of 'em too and grow sunflowers

Try mixing it with layer feed!

They need to see you eat one first. Then say "MMMMMmmmm, nummy nummy!". It took our awhile to figure it out. Now, we have to keep 'em back with a cattle prod.
