Super big goofy shaped eggs...

My silly girls have 14 nests to choose from, but of course they insist on using 4.

That is an interesting possibility, though.
Thanks.

Any thoughts on giving oyster shell with feed?

I have mixed it with thier food, but only lightly, and only if I notice a soft shell. My ladies are free range, and get egg layer pellets, I have noticed that thier shells are usually harder than I would like! I have to crack them HARD to open them, and that can be messy sometimes...

Hmmm.. interesting. I have four hens, two boxes but they all use one. I have seen them "waiting in line" before, and even seen one get in the box while one is already in there. I don't understand why the other box goes unused??

The eggs we have been getting lately look exactly like yours. My girls are 10 month old silver laced wyandottes. What in the world could be causing the huge odd shaped eggs? The cold weather perhaps? They have only been free-ranging on the weekends when I am home because we have a couple of huge hawks that stop by on a regular basis and well you know; no one wants to give a hawk a free chicken dinner.

Mine don't free range, they just have a huge run. You may have something there, maybe it might have something to do with the cold weather.

I cracked one of the big weird shaped ones open today, and was really surprised that it wasn't a double-yolker. Just a single large egg.

How about your off-shaped ones? singles or doubles?

No high roosts, so I don't think its that.

and as far as why they don't use the other nests, I can't figure that out.
It's not as if they haven't, they just seem to all want to be in the same nest on that particular day I guess. Goofy girls....
