hoosier -
As an IPS teacher, I just wanted to say that I think the decision to plan a 2 hour delay on Monday was a sound one for us. The last time the Colts were in the Superbowl over half the drivers for out busses (over 80% of our students come and go this way) either called in sick or did not show up - school had to be cancelled at the last minute. Please notice that it wasn't the students, teachers, or parents who weren't committed to education that day. It caused us to have to add a day at the end of the school year so we could have our required 180 days, and it also put many of our families in a hard spot - finding child care at the last minute isn't easy, and many of our parents work in jobs where they can't just take off work if their child is sick or out of school. Planning a delay allows time for our families to figure out a solution, and perhaps (hopefully) give our drivers enough rest that they will show up.
*In all fairness to our drivers, they must be ready to roll between 5 and 6 AM, and they must be alert - they are responsible for the safety of our students. The Superbowl runs late into Sunday night - wonder why they don't play it on Saturday?
GO COLTS!!!!!!!
