I posted another post about my new chicks today, but in case you haven’t seen it, quick recap: I got some silkie chicks in the mail that were extremely stressed out and one passed away. The other two are extremely lethargic and aren’t eating or drinking on their own, just sleeping. They’re awake and peeping occasionally, but they definitely aren’t running around or anything. I’m really not sure what the best thing to do for them is, I’ve been giving them save-a-chick water since this morning and they’re at a good temperature.

Try dipping their beaks into the water to drink for a second., then let them swallow. Unfortunately shipped chixks sometimes suffer from stress due to getting cold, dehydration, or from rough handling. Sometimes there can be a weak hatch as well. Poultry Cell or NutriDrench may also be helpful, andyou can give a couple of drops at a time. It is the same as the SaveAChick, but more concentrated. Makes sure they have clean butts, as pasty butt can keep them from passing droppings, and kill them.

How warm is your brooder? Can you make a little shallow bowl of wet chick starter mixed with a lot of water? Dip their beaks in it, but water is most important. Good luck.

Update: Another chick passed away overnight :hit They were so stressed from shipping that they just couldn’t pull through. I only have one left now, I’ll have to introduce her to my older chicks I suppose, but i dont know if she’ll make it either :(

Can you get the chicks replaced by the hatchery, or get some others locally, so the chick will have a couple of friends? It would be hard to place her with older chicks unless they were close in age and size. Sorry thst you lost another one.

The hatchery is going to replace them, I just don’t know if they’ll have anymore silkies. Thank you for the thoughts :(

Sorry for your loss.
Nutri-Drench is really a lot better than sad a chick in situations like this.
It is absorbed faster and straight into the blood stream.
