supermarket eggs will they hatch

its day 7 with the store bought eggs in the bator

Day 7...candle them in a dark room with a flash light and you will know if they are growing or not. If you see veins well, then

if not I would throw them out...that way you can save some blown up messes if they rot before day 21

Well...there are several problems to your theory. First and foremost, if these eggs were sold for eating, they should have been refrigerated. This doesn't ALWAYS kill the embryo, but it certainly wouldn't help your cause. Second, no farmer that is selling eggs for a profit is going to keep random roos running around just for fun. I know you alluded that you thought there might be "guard" roos to "protect" the hens. I doubt that is the case. I would agree that you'd have a better shot by getting fertile eggs from a farmer's market scenario than from a grocery store, but I still think it is unlikely. Also, your "incubator" doesn't sound like anything that would hatch anything, anyway. How are you controlling humidity/temp, etc? A 30W bulb in an open basket isn't going to properly heat the eggs and you will have whatever humidity is in your room (which may be OK if you are in a very humid area...but usually needs to be supplemented). Anyway, call me a killjoy, too...if you want. Just MHO. I wouldn't have wasted my time/money. It's difficult enough to get eggs you know are fertile to hatch, let alone ones that aren't supposed to be. I don't think you'll see anything hatch. Good luck.

Awesome! I admit to being surprised, although once I learned they were not supermarket eggs, I hadda step back a bit.

I tip my hat to you and wait eagerly for your results.

When I first started this whole crazy ride, I saw an EGGS FOR SALE $1 sign on the way to a friends house.

Picture me in my van, brakes squealing, throwing that baby in to reverse and going in that driveway as quickly as I could!

My aunt, who was with me, offered to go to the door to buy the eggs as I was way too interested in peeking at their cages from my van windows. Lots of different breeds...all with roos in them. Woot!

Got them home, set them in the incubator and HOPED!

Lots were fertile and made it. I was amazed and excited! I should add, they were also refrigerated and some were kinda wet...no clue how old they were, but they sure did hatch babies out just fine!

BUT I wouldn't try it from a grocery store just b/c I like more of a sure thing. hehe

There are several threads here with hatches from grocery store eggs. Many health food stores even carry eggs that are clearly labled 'fertile'.

I think Justino - a teen boy - hatched "Sunny" a safeway test egg before setting a larger hatch. Sunny was a roo and had to go to a new home.
