I was told he was a Maran. I can't find any Maran roosters that are solid black like this. Any insight?

I do see some bronze or copper on his hackles. Where did you get him? Could be a black copper marans, just a very poor quality one

He isn't mine. He is the father of my baby chicks. I know they are technically barn yard mix, mutts or EEs but I am just curious as to what their backgrounds are. Mom was an EE but guessing more of a green queen since she is also black and has feathered feet and 5 toes.

Also his eyes are orange not black but the feather coloring does look like an australorp.

True. Could be a cross or like @JacinLarkwell says, a low quality Black Copper Marans.
