We're yours good layers? My husband wants me to have dual purpose so we can butcher also. His idea not mine. I'm getting a little to attached. Typical female I guess.

If you are near Montana, there's an excellent partridge chantecler breeder in Helena, and his flock is NPIP certified. I think he was paring down some breeding stock this year, but his birds are beautiful.

Well, I'd say they were average layers. They were flighty though. Mine didn't like being handled. The cock reached a good 10-12 lbs. My kids called him the big red chicken. The girls end up being ornate in the feather department in partridge color.

Very true. The woman was either very uninformed or dishonest, but my point is that many people won't let others just come traipsing in to see their birds so if someone refuses you don't think they have a nefarious purpose. They may just be concerned about the spread of disease, especially since everything we heard about avian flu last year.

I am new to all of this. My grandkids 6 and under are my little helpers.

My helper is my 7 year old daughter.

Sometimes she is too helpful. I hope you get all of this sorted out. It can be easier to start with hatchery stock to begin with. That way you know what you have and you generally know the sex too. Sometimes backyard breeders don't know very much, so you need to arm yourself with knowledge and come with questions before you go. Learn how to check chicks for signs of disease if you buy from a backyard breeder. And always check for parasites.
