Introducing...
My new Sultan!

This is a 4 month old hen I recieved last night from our County Fair. Her owners were 4-H kids in another club. They had recently lost their other 3 Sultans to a raccoon, and this girl needed somewhere to go. She's very sweet, calm, and amazingly beautiful, and I'm glad to have her. I promised her two young owners that I would take very good care of her.
I had taken the majority of my chickens to the county fair for my 4-H project- 11 out of 16 birds! They did surprisingly well during the poultry show last Wednesday- almost all of my birds won their class. (Not bad for hatchery fowl!) Then my lovely Polish Shanaynay helped me win showmanship, so I had a very successful week! It was my last year at fair for 4-H, because I have aged out, so I'm feeling a little sad, but pleased all the same.
Anyway, back to this beautiful little hen!
We were starting to tear down after fair, and some of my fellow 4-H'ers, a young boy and his sister, showed me their beautiful little Old English Games, and their lone Sultan. It was love at first sight! She's so pretty and white, and she makes my WCB Polish look shabby! So, I asked my overseer (Mother), if we could take her home. My mother just rolled her eyes, but smiled, and I assumed that meant yes, so with me she came!
Now, imagine the following conversation with my father when we brought her home-
Father- "Didn't I tell you to come home with less chickens than when you left?!?"
Me- "But, Dad, I technically did! The barred Rock rooster is going home with that one lady with a flock of hens, and that one family is taking two of my Brahma hens, and the Sultan's owners maybe will take my Brahma rooster, so that means if I get rid of three, and take one in, I'll only have 14 chickens instead of 16!"
Father- *Eye-roll*
Dad doesn't know the ways of chicken math.
So, here she is! Her name was Olivia, but since I have a neighbor with that name, I may re-name her.
I thought of the name Diana, because, hey, sultans were royal people, and princesses are royal, and Diana was a princess....
