Hello. I just want to pass this along. If you suspect your hens are eating their own eggs, here is a cure: carve one (or more) egg-shaped forms from a light colored bar of soap and put it in the nest. They will peck it two or three times and then give up on the idea of getting something from anything that looks like an egg. I guess they don't like the taste. (Can't say I blame them.) I have fought the problem for years, and this is the only thing I've found that works. The results are immediate and lasting. I just leave the soap in the nest in case they want to try it again.

Welcome to BYC!

Excellent idea!!! I have/had a bunch of egg eaters and found that hanging curtains over my boxes along with fake porcelain eggs in the boxes also did the trick. But what ever it takes to get them to stop is all that matters!

Great job! And you might want to share this with other members in our Behaviors and Laying section here on BYC as your idea will no doubt help out many of our members....

Thank you for the great tip and welcome to our flock!
