Surprise Emu eggs!

Hi! You can probably use an NR360 for the first part of the incubation, but there's really not much room for them to hatch in there.

However, some people have started 3D printing risers for NR360s and you can buy them on Etsy. There are even turners for emu eggs.

As for other tips on how to hatch them: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/incubating-emu-eggs.77228/
Lemme grab the link to the easy store I buy from. I got their divider and egg turners, I quite like the quality

Thanks! I pick them up tomorrow morning. Dad has been sitting on them for a bit so it'll be interesting to see if any of them make it.

Thanks for the tips! I am planning to convert two of my NR360s for the time being. I'd like to figure out if they are developing at some point and if they are, may take the leap on a bigger incubator where they can hatch.

Here we go! There wasn’t time to get the Etsy riser so we made one to get us going for now. It’s holding heat and looking good so far.

We hadn't been going very long when our power went out in the cold weather that just went through the US. I brought the eggs near the woodstove and did the best I could to keep them warm before the power came back on around 12 hours later.

I was also thinking about it and am not sure how long dad was sitting on them before they were pulled. One was fully rotten so I am guessing it had been for a while, but this is my first emu experience. I am going to try looking for signs of life and if they are there, that would mean the eggs have been going for 30 days or more, correct?

I have an egg rocking. I could have swore I heard pecking from inside it yesterday. Since they were under a broody dad before I got them I don't know what day they are on, but I've had them for over a month.

Should I be moving anyone to a hatcher or will they continue to rock for a while before pipping?

When they are rocking that is a for sure sign that it is trying to hatch, its just at the beginning stages of the hatching process. You should read about the hatching process of emus, though I would wait a little longer before moving them to the hatcher.
Emu eggs can start rocking as early as day 32 from what I have read.
